DAY 4 MAY 8th Sunday in LOGRONO

Hotel Bracos had a pretty good crowd staying the night and they appeared about the same time as us for breakfast. The spread was not the same as a parador but had toast, scrambled eggs and bacon, fresh orange juice, etc. It will keep the hunger pains at bay, not that there have been many hunger pangs! It seems to me that we eat all day long!

Trip Advisor and the trusty map we got from the from desk had mentioned La Rioja museum in Logrono just 2 blocks from us was worth a stop…. boy, let me tell you that both of us were impressed to say the least. Making of bone needles!! Ancient coins and artifacts, not to mention excellent videos and displays. Best of all it was totally free and open on Sunday until 2pm.

We walked to the market square in front of the Cathedral and a small bazaar mostly selling used stuff. Lots of people out in the beautiful sunshine. We found a restaurant (!) and had combo plates for lunch and then back for a siesta and blogging time. Our sleep had been disturbed again the night before and we needed to sit, rest and act like we are elderly people on vacay!

The streets were less crowded on Sunday night maybe some felt that a work night should temper their party feelings a bit!  We wandered around the old town had a beer or two and ate some tapas; especially noted several stops featured Morcilla de Burgos with slightly different variation including one rolled into a ball with dices nut peces; all were very, very good and tasty. That was plenty given the size of our lunch plates! The noise continued into the night again but certainly a lot less than on Saturday night we were able to sleep the sleep of the dead until daybreak and the sunshine streamed into our room at about 8:00AM. Today will be checkout and load up to hit the road to finish up our trip to the Baztan valley!!

  DAY 17 22-MAY 22 Sunday Puente Viesgo Cantabria travel day to Ribadeo Galicia Region of Spain Parador Ribadeo It is the weekend after all and Sunday breakfast was so crowded that the full restaurant has been pressed into use as the breakfast room is maxed out. It seems the Spanish have had enough! Off we go for the weekend! They complied with a very strict lockdown but enough is enough! Some wear masks but many more don’t. I do notice that there are fewer staff and perhaps this is a similarity to the US. I suspect they will come back to work eventually but I notice things that are not as they were. There is a certain relaxing of standards. I hope they get that back. I.e.. Things not as clean as they were. Minor things such as dust etc. With sustenance taken we were ready to load up and begin the next leg of our trip to Galicia. 1030 and we were ready to head out, bags packed and arranged. We had not been back to España since May/June of 2022. We found affordable tickets and planned a 2 week + trip to the northern parts of Spain primarily in the Basque region to see both family and friends from out long ago lifetime in the North.

DAY 26 31 MAY 22 TUESDAY TRAVEL DAY LEAVING PLASENCIA TO PARADOR GUADALUPE Spain Parador Guadalupe & Cathedral After a cool Monday, Tuesday appears to be another hotter than normal spring day for here approaching 87F according to Weather Underground.com. Breakfast and then repack for our travels, we notice a throng of people hanging around reception. No, they were not all checking out to hold us up but they were awaiting the arrival of a huge motor coach (bus) for their tour. Even as we loaded up the car in the garage down on level -1, the mass of bus travelers came plodding thru the garage looking for the bus. NO WAY could a bus come down to this level via elevator, a gal from reception came running down to usher the herd to the exit door leading to the street.
