DAY 27--01 JUNE 22 WEDNESDAY GUADALUPE SPAIN

Cathedral court;yard
Parador breakfast to start the day and few patrons are staying at the Parador. We opted to go thru the cathedral and Monastery Royal again. (We had been before were privileged to see the Black Virgen up close. Many wanted to kiss her feet or touch, we opted out!) We were shepherded to join up with a much larger group of Spanish to enjoy the tour. Very hard to understand the guide for a number of reasons:  Speaking rapid fire Spanish, speaking into a full-face mask and in some rooms it echoed intensely, which baffled his words. He was in a hurry to complete the tour must have had a lunch time date with someone? I have never seen so many religious artifacts crammed into one building. Many were original 15th century robes, Miters, paintings, bibles etc. As Paul said the guide galloped us through that Monastery!

I had watched a lot of children arrive with their teachers, could have been the whole school for all I know. Guadalupe is not big! I decided to go in and look at the Cathedral, Paul opted out. It is quite modest compared to the Monastery but still impressive. There was a service going on so a few of us tiptoed in and there at the front were all the school children about to take communion!

Parador & Cathedral behind
With little else to view in town we decided to take the car out of the garage and explore the local surroundings. We did find a village with a restaurant well populated on its outside sidewalk tables., trouble was the lack of parking anywhere near that place and so we continued outside of town first to gas station and then to the next village where we had an excellent meal:  Paul had tuna, creamed roasted red peppers, mayo put together on sliced bread similar to a 3-slice club sandwich. Entrees were pork tenderloin slices and fries. Nice drive, beautiful country, beautiful mountains.

We went back to the Parador for siesta and blog. We needed to rest a little. Nothing wrong with resting once in a while.

Evening time we opted to stay in and just have bar snacks instead of walking into town, which is all of 100 yds, lol. Tells just how weary we are.  Ended up as an early night and we were down at 1015. Paul wrote that, I don’t think we have made it to bed before 11pm! We may have been down, but I was not out! Off to Alcala tomorrow, not too long a drive!
