DAY 13 WEDNESDAY 18 MAY 22 San Sebastian on the coast

It is a beautiful morning. We have breakfast looking at gently rolling waves lapping onto La Concha beach as we had breakfast overlooking the beach. Expect record highs for May of 91F and brilliant sunshine.

We shall kill some time and wander around until our cab arrives to take us for lunch at 1330 hrs. People watching, a lot of people on the beach, kayakers, standup boarders, swimmers and a boat that is wandering back and forth! There are some serious swimmers out there, seem a bit chilly for me but then Florida is different! We had a Bitter Kas drinks on the terrace and then moved out to the front to watch for our cab. Paul decided that once he got that damn car in the garage, he was not moving it! San Sab is not fun to drive in with all the roadwork and that garage???!!! Forget about it. It is even worse than the squeeze garage in Logrono!

It was only a couple of Kms to the Asador Tinxparta Berri Jalea 2 Illarra an actual sideria restaurant without driving up into the hills above San Sebastian. This place even has grilled Besugo fish like Orio Spain but they do not have the young boys diving into the tidal river for coins.

Gill is looking great and arrived shortly after we got there, and the visit began with the wine and conversation flowing like it had not stopped flowing over the past 50+ years of friendship! A lovely meal, a friendship rekindled. She had her back surgery here and has come back for check ups. A long lunch, a lot of conversation and emotion, photos taken, and Gill pronounced it was going to get windy and nasty later!

Taxi ultimately took the 3 amigos back to their separate San Sebastian locations. This hybrid taxi was a Mercedes that have a large widescreen 3D display of the harbor and  town center routes,,,,,cool,,,,,,,,,,,,,!

Siesta time to rest up and plan where supper might occur: locally or into the Old Town but the wind is blowing after the impromptu coastal  shower at sunset. It is kind of hard to get meals  planned! Over here we eat so much at different times, so later you don’t want to eat, but know you have to have something or you will regret it. My body is rebelling and saying WTF! A couple of pintxos will feed the beast!

We found a Basque ATM machine for cash, obviously the screen changed to English after it read our chip card scan….we were able to retrieve cash. On this trip we found almost all ATMs want to charge something for dispensing cash so far Santander tops the list at 7.00, BBVA at 5.00, Sebadell at 4.00 and now the Basque ATM at 4.00€. Who knows what our Credit Union will charge, they all want their pound of flesh. Euros 6% charged a flat $2.50 and used the exchange rate for that day which is the best so far.

Several pintxos and then back to the Hotel Niza for the best shaved serrano ham we have found on this trip and then call it a complete Wednesday as our first two weeks are in the books and in the blog as well!
