DAY 14, THURSDAY 19 MAY 22 TRAVEL DAY Leaving San Sebastian to Puente Viesgo Hotel Balneario Gran Hotel Natural SPA
We had our last breakfast before the multi-trip to the garage
to load up and hit the road. This hotel may have had its drawbacks, no fridge,
no safe, very small, roadworks right outside etc. but I have to say the staff
were awesome. Kind and helpful with a great sense of humor! The view from the
dining room was awesome too, looking right out on La Concha beach and the bay.La Concha Beach Jesus watches.
Driving the 3 levels to reach the garage exit was entertaining as all turns were way too tight to navigate without fear of scraping the corners but we made it to the exit which was fun to scan the card watch the door slide away and jump back into the car to race thru the open space before the door began its retreat! It would have made a nice video for Candid Camera!!
The Ford Puma GPS routed us inland and south to Tolosa
instead of the coastal roadway to Bilbao which would have been more direct. But
we did follow her and eventually we did make our way but I am sure her choice
extended the journey by at least an hour. ( not to mention a couple of detours
because directions were not followed! One of which required us to get on the AP
( toll road) just to get on the right road. That’s a story for another day! Just
sayin’)Jane on her phone
Finally we took a rest stop for a bitter kas and to stretch our legs and we did have a bocadillo of serrano ham with egg which tided us over until we arrived at 4:10PM too late for any lunch so some croquettes had to do for a snack. There are usually lots of bars on our travels but this one was had to find, for everyone it seemed as parking was at a premium!
Just to make it a perfect day, there was a bit of maintenance
going on, they were painting the front entrance so we had to maneuver around
the workers wielding paint brushes, but we did get checked in OK. Hotel Niza Gray Awanings
We are in a Junior Suite! Yeah! After all that driving, we opted to go for a short drive before supper in search of a Medieval Torre which we never found in spite of negotiating very narrow farm roads, very sharp bends under bridges and roadworks with no workers! We came back to end in the village proper. Fish soup, combo plate and Paul had a solomillo steak.
It had been a very long day and we were ready for bed.
