DAY 19 TUESDAY 24 MAY 22 Ribadeo travel day to Palencia Spain
Early morning overcast skies with an indication that it will
be a partly sunny day, after all without rain, for our 375Km drive inland and
to the southeast. A horreo - grain storage unit
We had light traffic and made good time for the most part, stopping for coffee and a leg stretch once before a lunch time stop in the middle of no where except a very large gas station and cafeteria complex with 25+ dining room tables and an excellent menu of the day for 12.50€. We had grilled Brochetta various meats/veggies, Paul also had white bean soup.
We
got back on the road to finish the last 100Km into Palencia. Quiet town although it was siesta time at
arrival. Wide garage entrance to the underground unlike Logrono. It is a very
odd set-up! We unloaded in front of the hotel, took our luggage up to the room
then took the car down to the garage. We f
ound
room 211 after walking the maze of steps and separate elevators from the
underground garage. I had left my iPad in the car, so I went to ask the
receptionist how to get back to the garage. She gave me an odd electronic/
computer like Key and directed me outside down an alley to the pedestrian’s
entrance to the garage. Then I had to gain access by using the weird key to get
through to the elevator and go down to -2. I was quite dizzy by the time I got
my iPad and retraced my route to get back to the hotel to return the key and get
back up to the room.! No one and I mean no
one is getting into that garage without the key thingy! Very secure! We will
have to load the car out front of the hotel as there is no way to take luggage
to the garage with the number different elevators and steps between multiple
buildings…. interesting and slightly confusing, too. Hotel Castilla Vieja courtyard

The Hotel’s Taverna opens at 1900 which we opted for that
night and really enjoyed ourselves with light tapas. It had been quite a long day
after all and to our amazement we each had over 7500 steps on our phone
pedometers, even though we spent the majority of the time strapped into our
bucket seats!
