DAY 22 27 MAY 22 FRIDAY 2nd DAY IN SALAMANCA SPAIN
Breakfast at the Eurostars leaves a lot to be desired. First
of all, eggs are scrambled and are sitting in a warmer and no eggs are
available for any other form to eat so don’t ask, take the cold lumpy scrambled
and like it! Forget about toast our toaster does NOT function well! However, there
are plenty of meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurt, pastries, juices, coffee etc.
Paul does love his eggs in the morning when he is on vacay!San Esteban
Walked to San Esteban Convent and Church we entered and wandered all over the interior, high alter was 27 meters tall. Paul is not as keen as I am at visiting these old churches. I am constantly amazed at the beauty of these buildings. The skill and dedication it took. It was a Dominican monastery originally was replaced in 1524 and took until 1610 to complete. It is said that Christopher Columbus stayed in the original when he came to defend his idea of reaching the Indies by sailing West!
We continued our wandering up towards the 3 Cathedrals and
decided it was time to eat, again! A combo plate for Jane huge allotment of
fries two eggs and serrano ham, Paul had Iberian solomillo, the tiny restaurant
had aseos on the 1st floor Via spiral staircase, kitchen on the 2nd
floor same spiral staircase for the servers to navigate! You make it work with
what you have!San Esteban
By this time we were pretty weary and caught a taxi back to hotel for siesta and blog writing.
Friday night is PIZZA night normally and so having checked out the American Papa Johns shop just around the corner from the hotel we walked there for Friday night PIZZA as we missed the American taste that is not normally available here in Spain. Just for fun and a change of pace!
We walked back to try our new place to sample his famous homemade cheesecake but they were packed and not available. So, we went back to our room instead for a nightcap and sulked a little! Lol!
Enjoying the blog. You shouldn't do such a good job describing those meals. Serrano, solomillo and the delicious fresh salads and of course the beans. Ahhhh!! So good.
