DAY 16 21 MAY 22 Saturday Puente Viesgo Spain Cantabria Region of Spain

Saturday morning and the weekend crowd showed up for breakfast not sure if anyone told them about the assigned time blocks as it appeared as though they ALL came at 0900 hours. The hotel was packed. I guess the Spanish were pretty fed up with the lockdown too! It is still cloudy and overcast but no rain yet. Compared to San Sebastien very dull, but so green and beautiful.

Suances Beach

We decided that my shaving kit which was shedding tiny black bits of rubber flecks all over the placed needed to be replaced. I tell you what, you don’t use something for a couple of years and it starts to disintegrate! And so we plotted a day trip into Torrelavega to a huge hypercor Carrefour along with any other shopping items plus a gas top off as well. Our Ford Puma is a Unleaded Gas Flex Fuel Hybrid giving us 40+ miles per gallon but we are running thru a lot of Kilometers on the road. The store delivered after quizzing a couple of Carefour employees who weren’t quite sure what we wanted! New shaving kit bag and other stuff procured. We set off to the nearest beach just 8 kilometer distance in a small village: Suances on the coast. We found a huge city run parking field next to the beach for 2 euros. And then walked to one of many seafood restaurants along the beach front. Jane had baby lamb chops and Paul opted for slow roasted leg of lamb. However, the highlight was a horse-riding group of about 10 riders who stopped to have a cold one (beer or wine) Jane took several photos including one of the gals had a flamenco dress over her riding boots.

Roast Lamb

The meal was a real treat and we all had fun and even the horses enjoyed the break as well. Reminded us of El Rocio down next to Seville where all the bars had serving tables at 6 ft off the ground for the horseback height riders!!! We went back to the hotel for siesta and later ventured out to find supper tapas snacks as our lunch still had us FULL up!! Tapas at the Café Cafeteria near Puente Viesgo. We each had a wine at the bar next to the Hotel 1 star up the road some as our first stop but they had NO TAPAS. At the second stop, the Café Cafeteria we had tapas: a plate of jamon ham serrano, plate of cheese,  and a ration of calamari.

We made it back at 1000 for a night cap in the Piano Bar before turning in.
